I have been a real estate agent since 2013. I’ve always wanted to invest in real estate, but I have yet to purchase my first investment property. For the past 10 years, I’ve concentrated on being a real estate agent and a small business owner.

Time to take the leap of faith and start investing in real estate.

But in April, I decided now is the time. Quite some time ago I started listening to podcasts, reading/listening to audiobooks and in April I decided to join Tarek El Moussa’s program called Homeschooled by Tarek.

Who is Tarek and why should I listen to him and what he has to teach? Well, you may know him as the HGTV host of Flip or Flop and a few others.

His program has given me so much insight and knowledge into the investing side of real estate. Luckily, I am familiar with a lot of things because I have been an agent for 10 years, but there is a lot of new information as well. I have entered a world of supporting coaches, peers and role models who all want to see me succeed.

I recently went to The Flipping Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona. I had the most INCREDIBLE time! Talk about life changing and motivating!

Who did I get to meet?

There I got to meet Tarek El Moussa himself IN PERSON after being on many zooms with him and the Homeschooled community. I got a copy of his new book, Cashflow From Commercial Real Estate, written by Anthony Morrison and Tarek El Moussa.

We heard from so many amazing people at this two-day event. Below is a clip from YouTube when Jamil Damji spoke.

And I got to meet him IN PERSON too!

With Jamil Damji

We also heard from Candy Valentino, David Steinberg, Pace Morby, Heather El Moussa, Mary Fitzgerald Bonnet and Romain Bonnet (from Selling Sunset), Henry Washington and many more inspiring individuals.

A big moment for a lot of us was our “breakthrough” moment. We all wrote down all the negative thoughts in our head or the reasons that keep us from achieving the goals that we set for ourselves. We also wrote down our excuses on why we don’t achieve those goals.

On the flip side, we wrote a letter to our future selves. We wrote what we are going to do in our lives, professionally and personally. I wrote all the things I will achieve and what that will do for our family.

The Breakthrough Moment…

Then, we all literally had a breakthrough moment. We broke those boards with our hands and broke through all the fears and excuses about why we don’t achieve our dreams and goals. And we had a little fun at the same time- okay, a lot of fun!

I took so much away from this two-day event. If you want to start investing in yourself to get the knowledge to learn how to invest in real estate and your overall long-term wealth, then I can give you a few pointers on where to start.

This is where I started… just start immersing yourself with books, podcasts, etc. about real estate investing and learn as much as you can.

  1. Read Books/ Listen to Audiobooks. I listen to audiobooks while I work out or drive. You’d be surprised how much time is spent in the car. Well, for me at least- its A LOT. I’ve gone through entire books in a day or so before. If you want a list of books to start with, see my post, Books to read about Real Estate / Finance / Life.
  2. Podcasts. Bigger Pockets is a great one to start with! The Real Wealth Show is another one.
  3. Mentor. Find one. I chose to join Homeschooled by Tarek for his group of coaches and for his knowledge in the industry. He actually gets on zoom calls with all of us and shows us how it’s done. You don’t have to join anything like this, but you need to find someone to show you different strategies so you can decide what is best for you.
  4. Surround yourself with other like-minded people that you can talk with, share with and help keep each other accountable! I met two great people at the Flipping Summit, and we are now on a group text, and we text updates, books we are reading, things we have learned, etc.
  5. Follow people in the industry on social media. Follow Tarek El Moussa, Heather El Moussa, Candy Valentino, David Steinberg, Pace Morby, Heather El Moussa, Mary Fitzgerald Bonnet and Romain Bonnet (from Selling Sunset), Henry Washington, Bigger Pockets, Robert Kiosaki, Brandon Turner, Darren Hardy, just to name a few. There is so much FREE information out there. Try to absorb as much as you can.

Good luck on your journey of becoming a better YOU and making all your dreams and goals a reality.
